All-Film Maternity Session | Syd & Leo

During our last trip to Oahu, Hawai’i, I took an opportunity to spring an all-film maternity session on my friend Sydney. We were meant to just hang out at one of our favorite spots, but she just looked SO cute and glowy, I had to capture her! Sydney is about to go full boy mom when baby boy number two gets here in a few months. Isn’t she a vision?

There is something about maternity and family photos on film that make my heart skip a beat. All-film maternity session have particularly stolen my heart. There’s just something about it! The nostalgia is unbeatable. The softness and glow is impossible to perfectly replicate. Film also creates a slowness and intentionality that digital doesn’t demand. I’m always chasing a balance in these sessions. I don’t want to miss a moment with hesitation but I don’t want to waste a precious shot. Adding film has been the best decision I’ve made in the last year for my business. It feeds the soul!

What I’m shooting on:

This session was shot on Portra 800 120 and Kentmere Pan 400 B&W 120 on a Pentax 645nii. I LOVE Kentmere B&W, it’s been my film of choice for any black and white additions I make to a session. It’s been so reliable, the perfect amount of contrast, and it’s CHEAP. All film is developed and scanned through my favorite lab, The Find Lab. I always know that I can trust them with my film needs.
