Kenz and I have known each other since the good ol’ college days and started photography around the same time! Throughout the years, we’ve taken turns taking pictures of each other for our portfolios and I feel so lucky to have this talented girl as a friend. When I found out I was pregnant, I asked her to do my birth story and the day before I went into labor, she found out that she was pregnant with her first baby. It was so perfect!! I was able to repay the favor and planned to do her birth story as well.
I got the call early in the morning that she was in labor and progressing quickly so I packed up my stuff and headed to the hospital. I had only been driving for about 15 minutes when I got another call asking how close I was. I was heading to Ogden from Draper (about 45 mins away) so I wasn’t that close and Kenz let me know that she had jumped to 9cm and was basically getting ready to push. HOLY CRAP! I thought to myself “well, it’s her first baby so she’ll probably be pushing for like an hour at least so I’ll be fine.” WRONG! Kenzie only pushed for like 15 minutes and roll-y, squishy baby Reece made her grand entrance 10 minutes before I walked through the door.
Birth is nuts guys! You truly never know what’s going to happen!
Thankfully I got to capture all the sweet first moments with Reece on mama’s chest. Everyone was pumped and the energy in the room was so beautiful. She was so pink and round and squishy with a full head of black curly hair. I’m so grateful I get to be a part of these first moments of life!
