WE ARE THE HARDISTYS

On June 28th, 2014, Bryan and I were sealed in the Newport Beach Temple for time and all eternity. 

We met on O’ahu while we were both attending BYU-Hawai’i and I knew almost immediately that we were going to end up together. I had seen Bryan walking around campus all the time (there are only 2600 students so we were bound to see each other a lot) and thought he had the kind of smile that makes you feel all warm inside. He was tall, tan, and so handsome, but our groups of friends didn’t overlap at all so I had no idea how I would meet him. Our lives ran parallel for a while, until I started rooming with a mutual friend. One day, he dropped her off at our tiny studio after hanging out and I waved from the doorway. He waved back, rather enthusiastically I might add, and finally that door was opened. Bryan had sold my roommate some coconut rings he got from Brazil so I told her that I wanted some too. After chatting casually through Facebook, I decided to just go for it and ask him if he wanted to hang out. This is about how the conversation went:

Me: “Hey, are you busy this afternoon?”

Him: “Yeah, I have class later. Why?”

Me: “Oh that’s such a bummer. I’m going to hike Maunawili with some friends and wanted to see if you wanted to come.”

Him: “Yeah, I can go, what time?”

Turns out, he completely ditched one of his major classes to come hiking with me and it really paid off because we ended up hanging out every day, all day after that for two and a half weeks.

I knew it was him by the end of that hike. Maybe even before that if I’m being honest with myself. We were engaged after 4 months and got married after a 6 month engagement. We spent the next two years exploring and loving and growing together on our island and I wouldn’t have wanted it to be with anyone else. I love you Bryan Hardisty!
